Training Future Michigan Rugby Players

The UMRFC recently spread their rugby knowledge, helping at the MITE camp as well as hosting their first summer rugby clinic.

Players helped at the 2012 MITE (Michigan Introduction to Technology and Engineering) camp alongside players from the women’s rugby club. More than 40 students in the 10th and 11th grades participated in small drills and and introductory games Friday. The rugby on the North Campus Diag was a welcomed break from their classroom learning.

On Saturday, the first U of M rugby summer clinic was held at Mitchell Field. Local high school players were able to get skills and tactical training from Michigan rugby coaches and players. Highlights include prop Brennan Arnett winning the 1v1 championship and Gunnar Damon being named player of the day. Both took home wonderful jerseys as rewards. All players also received clinic shirts pictured below. The clinic was a major part of a dedicated effort by the UMRFC to assist the growth and development of youth and high school rugby.
