Cole brings a tremendous amount of energy to the Maize and Blue. As the first side’s #8, Cole enjoys big tackles and thumping would be tacklers when running with the ball. Van Harn works to be all over the field and always empties the tank. Cole’s toughness and hunger embody the spirit of the Wolverine.

Why rugby?
I was on my way to the wrestling club’s booth at Festifall my freshman year when I was stopped by a couple of ruggers and asked if I wanted to play rugby. Long story short, the next morning they picked me up at 8am from Bursley and drove me down to Bowling Green, Ohio for my first game. I’ve been hooked ever since.

What have you liked about Michigan rugby the most so far?
The team atmosphere. I’ve been on plenty of teams before but never have I felt this level camaraderie. They don’t care who you are, where you’re from, or how well you can play. You’re automatically part of the team.

Most memorable moment on the pitch?
Being on the pitch at the 2014 CRC tournament and going undefeated in pool play after stomping OSU on national television.

What’s your favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
My favorite drills are contact drills. Especially 1v1 competitions. My least favorite is conditioning.

What other sports have you played?
I wrestled and played football in high school, and study several different martial arts.

In 5 years, what do you see yourself doing?
Operating a research greenhouse hopefully.

What’s some embarrassing childhood memory you can tell us?
My mom called down to me in the basement asking if I wanted to help bake peanut butter cookies. I got so excited that I tripped running up the stairs and split open my forehead and needed stitches. I still have the scar.

Favorite place in Ann Arbor?
The Botanical Gardens. I like flowers.

Biggest fear?
Heights. Not just because I’m high up, but I have an intense fear of accidentally falling. Like walking on some high up public place and little kids are running around and I accidentally get pushed off.

Favorite food/meal?
My mom’s corned beef and cabbage. Which then becomes Reuben sandwiches.

Any game day superstitions?
I like to eat Subway 3-4 hours before the match if possible and I always wear the same shirt to warm up in.

Favorite superhero and why?
Doctor Manhattan, because why not idolize a naked blue quantum man?

Best advice you’ve ever received?
It’s a tie between, “If you want to be the best, you have to beat whoever they put in front of you,” and, “You can do anything for a short period of time.” Both were given to me by my father.
