Michigan Falls to Indiana

It was a cold, wet, and windy day in Ann Arbor on Saturday October 3rd as the University of Michigan hosted the Indiana Hoosiers for a good old fashioned rugby match. With Indiana ranked number 10 and Michigan number 17 there was plenty on the line worth fighting for. However, Indiana came out hard and fast, and the whole game Michigan was just trying to play catch-up.

The first try came less than five minutes into the game after Indiana recovered their own kick off and put in some hard work through a few phases in Michigan’s end. The conversion was missed and Indiana leads (0-5). Due to the wet, cold, and windy weather it hard for either side to keep the ball in hand and knock ons were prevalent. Plenty of work came from the forwards as it was scrum after scrum after scrum. Indiana put on the pressure in set pieces and scored another try after a lineout on Michigan’s 22. Shortly after a chip kick from the wing and a favorable bounce led to a score of   0-19. As the game wore on Indiana scored another try from their wing and put in two more penalty kicks to have the score be  0-29 at half.

At the start of the second half Michigan was finally able to get themselves on the scoreboard after some pick-and-go’s in the Indiana red zone that allowed for a try to be pounded in, but sadly the momentum would stop there. Indiana managed two more tries from the wing, and the final score was 7-41, Indiana.
