Why did you decide to play rugby?

My dad introduced me to rugby when I was pretty little, since he had started playing in college and fallen in love with it. What really helped me stick with rugby, though, was the unique and vibrant culture that surrounds the sport.

What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?

MRugby has given me some of my best friends at Michigan and provided me with so many amazing opportunities off the field. It also feels great to be able to wear the block M and represent my school on the field.

Describe your most memorable moment on the field.

Winning the Michigan Cup this past year was really special, since our team was mostly freshmen. It would probably be between that or my first A-side start against Cincinnati last August.

What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?

My favorite drill has gotta be 1v1 or 2v2 contact. It’s always super high energy and everyone tends to get pretty into it and have a good time. My least favorite is definitely conditioning.

What other sports have you played?

I played football in high school, mainly since my school didn’t have a rugby team. Other than that, I’ve played soccer, basketball, and baseball at pretty casual levels.

What is an embarrassing childhood memory that you can share with us?

I vividly remember getting my finger stuck in a purple wiffle ball when I was little. My mom had to break me free with bath soap and nail clippers while I was crying and freaking out. Oh, also, the first points I ever scored in basketball were for the other team.

What is your favorite place in Ann Arbor?

It’s gotta be White St

What is your biggest fear?

I’ve had lots of irrational fears come and go, but I’ve always had really bad FOMO.

What is your favorite food?

Pretty much anything citrus-y or acidic, but my mom’s pico de gallo is undefeated.

Do you have any game-day superstitions? Explain.

Nothing too crazy, but I always like to toss around a ball and listen to music before warmups.

Who’s your favorite superhero? Why?

Lego Batman. No explanation needed.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Never pretend to be somebody you’re not.

Again, congratulations to our July Player of the Month, Kiyan Jacobs!
