This month’s Alumnus of the Month is Greg Rose. An inspirational player, Greg embodied the Michigan Rugby spirit. Rose is tough, tenacious, and competitive. His leadership helped guide the team to many successful seasons spanning three decades. Teammates regularly mention Greg as a fantastic player and one they always wanted by their side in a battle.

When did you play?
I started in the fall of 1976 (Freshman year at UM) and stopped playing regularly around 1991

What is your favorite memory or memories as a member of the club?
Life-long friendships and some great, very memorable games.
Beating the Chicago Lions 42-0 on Easter weekend in A2. Can’t remember the year.
Beating the University of British Columbia Olde Boyes in Victoria, BC. We were there for a tournament and they had several Canadian Select Side Players on their team. 1983. It was under the lights and they said they had never played against a tougher pack than ours.

Did you have any special honors during your time with the club?
In my tenure, I held every position that the club had at one point. I was club captain, president, etc. over the years. I was also the women’s first coach when they started up the club. I was also on the Midwest Select Side several years and I was an All-American in 1982 when we went to the National finals.

What are you doing now?
I recently retired from Deloitte Consulting where I was a Partner for over 14 years. I am now opening a gun range in Ann Arbor in conjunction with Ann Arbor Arms (A3).

Any other interesting stories or info that you can provide?
Too many to list or tell. The one thing I can tell you is that when I started playing, we held our games on Elbel Field. The games were at the same times as the football games. We regularly had 100,000 people walking by our matches on the way to the football games. That was pretty cool.
