Michigan Rugby Joins Movember Campaign

Movember

Movember is an annual charity competition during which people all over the world grow a mustache to raise money for research into Prostate and Testicular Cancer and to generate awareness of these types of cancer which affect men of all ages across the world.

This all began in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 when 30 friends challenged themselves to grow a mustache over November, in a lighthearted attempt to bring it back into fashion. The following year they began raising funds during the month in order to support Prostate Cancer research. Every year since, the concept has grown and grown. In 2012 there were 1,127,151 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas (women can raise money too, although they don’t have to grow a mustache!), the campaign raised $147 million and was a truly multinational effort. This year they hope to go bigger once more.

Sports teams, and particularly rugby teams, have bought into the concept and have contributed massively to its success. Recently you may have noticed some of the players in the fall internationals in Europe sporting delicately crafted upper lips. University sports teams are also taking part; there are leader boards by which you can compare the totals you have raised with your rivals and friends.

This year the University of Michigan Rugby Football Club are taking part, and we need your help! We currently stand at 13131st place on the “Big Mustache on Campus – USA” leader board. All money donated goes toward research and raising awareness. Any amount however small is greatly appreciated! You can donate via the link below. Help contribute to a great cause and help us make a late surge up the leader board!
