Wolverines Scoop Up Big Ten and D1A Honors

Christian Mentzer, Sequoyah Burke-Combs, and Nick Fehrman garnered 1st Team Big Ten recognition

Seven Michigan Men were recently award recognition by the Big Ten. Nick Fehrman, Sequoyah Burke-Combs, and Christian Mentzer all received 1st team recognition for their play this fall. Fehrman is a sophomore loosehead prop from Bronx, NY who was dominate in scrums this season. Burke-Combs, a junior, and Mentzer, a 5th year, both played for local Dexter as high schoolers and terrorized teams from the openside flanker and inside center positions for Michigan this year. Burke-Combs was named to the 1st team last season at wing while this is the first recognition for Fehrman and Mentzer.

Joining them with 2nd team recognition are juniors Drew Vecchio, Cole Van Harn, and Joel Conzelmann. Vecchio is a lock from San Diego, CA who was also recognized on the 2nd team last season. Van Harn from Hamilton, MI excelled as UMRFC’s #8 this fall while Conzelmann, hailing from Grand Rapids, provided a steady hand as the team’s flyhalf. Conzelmann was named Honorable Mention last season while this is Van Harn’s first award. The last honoree is junior Stuart Starkweather who was given Honorable Mention. Starkweather is from Bay City, MI and plays lock next to Vecchio. He is also the son of former Michigan player Frank Starkweather

Conzelmann was also recently honored by USA Rugby’s D1A competition and Canterbury as the national Player of the Month for October. His 21 points versus Illinois highlighting October’s play. Conzelmann now qualifies for further D1A recognition at the end of the year. More information can be found here.
