SISU™ Mouthguard August Player of the Month: Alex Carson

Alex Carson is a rising senior who has done a lot for the rugby team since he joined his freshman year. Alex is an officer on the team who originally played prop, switched to a back, and will most likely be needed at prop again this year as our prop reserves dwindle. Congratulations Alex!

Why Rugby?
I was looking for a contact sport to play after High School, saw rugby and tried it. I’ve loved the game since then

What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
The camaraderie and feeling of brotherhood that this team creates is unparalleled

Most memorable moment on the pitch?
Helping lead the academy team to our absolute murder of Wisconsin in Elkhart this past fall

What’s your favorite rugby drill in practice? Least Favorite?
My most favorite is probably either scrimmages or any drill that allows us to put all of our skills together and be creative. My least favorite drill is any boring, straight-up fitness that does not incorporate any useful facet of the game.

What other sports have you played?
Wrestling, Football, Baseball, and Basketball

What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?
Working towards or completing my PhD in Neuroscience.

What’s an embarrassing childhood memory you can share with us?
Any of the myriad of times I vomited in a public place.

Favorite place in Ann Arbor?
Probably either the Nichols Arboretum or the Chemistry building Atrium.

Biggest fear?

Favorite food?
I’m a sucker for anything with fruit and mint in it.

Any game-day superstitions?
I wear the same pair of compression shorts and undershirt for every game.

Favorite Superhero and why?
The Martian Manhunter, because he has absolutely incredible powers, but is very logical and tries to use diplomacy before force.

Best Advice?
You cannot help fill the cups of others if your cup is empty; make sure you take care of yourself.
