The Wolverines headed over to take on one of the oldest collegiate rugby rivalries against MSU
in the Battle of the Mitten this past Friday.
With excitement in the air, MSU warms up the scoreboard with a quick try, and the Spartans
take the lead 5 – 0. Eoin responds with quick try up the middle, and with a wide left kick tying
the score 5 – 5. In tough run, MSU’s 7 picks up a yellow card, and the Wolverines score off the
maul. Though the conversion is no good, the scoreboard ramps up 10 – 5. MSU heats up the
game with a run through the middle and a conversion that’s no good, tying up the score once
again 10 – 10. With 13 minutes left in the first half, the Spartans take back the lead leaving the
scoreboard in their favor with two tries but no conversions. With a reenergized start in the
second half, the Wolverines finally drive the ball into the try zone, trailing MSU close behind
being 5 points down. 3 minutes left in the match, after a long hustle from both teams, MSU
runs the ball up the sidelines for a swift try, missing the conversion. The game ends and the
scoreboard reads 25 – 15.
