SISU™ Mouthguard March Player of the Month: Nathan Feldman

Congratulations to Nathan Feldman, our Player of the Month!

Position: Wing and Fullback

Height: 6’1″

Weight: 190 lbs

Year: Junior

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Hometown: Potomac, MD

Why did you decide to play rugby?
I saw a flier in the engineering building and thought it sounded fun. My uncles had played rugby in college for a bit and I thought I might be good at it since I had played soccer since I was 5.

What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
I really like the competitive aspect on the field paired with the overall generosity and openness of the community. I was immediately embraced by the team while also being pummeled by 260-pound guys on a field in the rain and somehow there was no contradiction between the two.

Describe your most memorable moment on the field.
Nailing 6 out of 7 kicks in the middle of the weeknight game versus Michigan State in Fall 2019 was pretty fun, especially including “the kick” from the sideline that tied the game up late in the second half. We went on to win that game.

What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
My favorite rugby drill is any kicking drill. My least favorite rugby drill is “The Brahj”.

What other sports have you played?
I have played just about every sport at one point, including soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming, tennis, ultimate frisbee, football, and now rugby.

What do you see yourself doing in five years?
Living in the mountains of Montana, working for some small engineering company, and fishing in the local rivers on weekends.

What is an embarrassing childhood memory that you can share with us?
I once fell into a fire at Boy Scout Fire Safety Training… I still got the badge though, as well as a complimentary trip to the hospital.

What is your favorite place in Ann Arbor?
A beautiful little hammock spot on the Huron River where you can dangle your feet in the water from the hammock.

What is your biggest fear?
Running out of Legos

What is your favorite food?
Lobster Mac and Cheese

Do you have any game-day superstitions?
I always walk onto the field listening to “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins and I can’t really start warming up until I have heard the drum solo, then it’s the Moana Soundtrack and the Tarzan Soundtrack.

Who is your favorite superhero and why?
Matt Trenary because he’s the only one I know.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
“Just stop overthinking things, run up, and kick the ball” – Zach Simkins

Again, congratulations to our March Player of the Month, Nathan Feldman!
