Senior Appreciation, Part 1

This May is Senior Appreciation Month! Michigan Rugby’s class of 2021 includes 17 graduating players. In this article, I’ll acknowledge half of those students.

Let’s recognize our graduating students:

Davis Grimm

Davis Grimm, a fifth-year senior, played Michigan Rugby for a total of 9 semesters and joined to continue his rugby high-school sports. During his time, he played prop, #8, and flanker. Off the field, Davis also held club officer positions, such as Equipment Manager, VP of Marketing, and Assistant Captain. One of his most notable accomplishments was being awarded as the Top 23 player of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year. After graduating with a degree in General Studies, Davis hopes to work in politics in the D.C area.

Brandon Walter

Brandon Walter joined Michigan Rugby during his freshman year and played for 7 semesters as a prop. Brandon also held multiple officer positions, including Equipment Manager, Director of Alumni Relations, and Chief Financial Officer. Graduating with a degree in Business Administration, he now plans to become a Financial Advisor at Northwestern Mutual.

Truman Stovall

Truman Stovall joined Michigan Rugby extremely early, going to summer practices before his freshman year fall semester in 2017, and played a total of 8 semesters as a center. Further, Truman has served as Community Service Director from 2017-2020. Most notably, Truman was B-side MVP in 2017 and Arnold Cowmeadow Clubman of the Year in 2018, as he raised over $10,000 in his role as a club officer. He was also a finalist for the Rosalie Ginsberg Award for Community Commitment and Recipient of the Robert G. and Catherine J. Curry Scholarship. Truman is also graduating with multiple degrees, including a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering with a German minor, along with a Masters in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Medical Product development. Now, he plans on joining Deloitte in San Francisco as a Medical Device Cyber Risk Consultant.

Ian Kwant

Ian Kwant, a wing for 6 semesters, joined Michigan Rugby in 2017. He also held multiple positions for the club, including being the VP of Fundraising and Merchandise. Most notably, he helped the team take third place with three tries in the 2018 Big 7’s tournament. With a Bachelor’s in Organizational Studies, he will now be joining the Leadership Development Program at E&J Gallo Winery.

Jack Vecchio

Jack Vecchio joined Michigan Rugby during his freshman in 2016 and played a total of 9 semesters. However, during that time, Jack played multiple positions, including the lock, flanker, #8, and center. Further, he was the internal operations director during his sophomore year, club operations officer in 2019, and captain in 2020. Now with an M.S.E in Space Systems Engineering, Jack plans to now move to Redondo Beach to start working.

Nick Campbell

Nick Campbell joined Michigan Rugby in 2017 during his freshman year for 7 semesters, primarily playing fullback. He also held several positions as a club officer during his junior and senior year, as the CFO and VP. He is also graduating with a degree in Economics with a minor in Political Science.

This is Nick during the Battle of the Mitten, tackling MSU’s fullback along our sideline to save a try:

Jake Bodner

Jake Bodner was part of Michigan Rugby for a total of 8 semesters, starting from September 2017. During his time, Jake mainly played hooker. Off the field, he was the VP of club operations in 2018, VP in 2019, and club president in 2020. He also holds the Arnold Cowmeadow Award and excels in the double tackle and the sop tackle. After graduating with a degree in Biology, Health, and Society, he plans on taking a gap year to work as a medical assistant for a dermatology office in the Boston area.

Eoin Sansevero

Eoin Sansevero joined Michigan Rugby in 2017 and played for a total of 7 semesters, mainly playing flyhalf and center. Eoin is also graduating with a major in Engineering Physics and a minor in Math and plans to continue his studies at the graduate level.
