UMRFC: 2021 Summer Internship Spotlight

This article features players in Michigan Rugby currently holding internships during the 2021 Summer. From interns in finance to civil engineering, this summer’s Michigan Rugby features a diverse class of summer interns!

Let’s recognize our interns:

Justin Metti, a current Junior, is remotely interning for Quicken Loans this summer as a software engineer. He is part of the performance management team where he helps creates front-end user applications, maintain and create databases, and collaborates with team members and leaders.

Thomas Majure, a current senior majoring in Civil Engineering, is currently working in the Washtenaw Road County Commission, where he monitors traffic speed and volume using radar and hydraulic counters. He also oversees road construction and calculates asphalt yields, and oversees material density testing.

Braden Loughnane, a current junior majoring in Computer Science, is currently working remotely in Acadian Asset Management as an Investment Analytics and Data Intern. On a day-to-day basis, Braden helps manage the data used in quantitative models and builds in-house software to aid in the creation/execution of those models. For example, right now he’s migrating some data tables to AWS and working on a UI to simplify the creation of new models.

Bill Young, a current senior majoring in Applied Excercise Science, is currently working onsite at the University of Oregon as a Strength and Conditioning Intern for the Football team. During his time there, he has assisted in the delivery and execution of strength and conditioning programming to prepare Oregon football to compete in the fall.

Conor Egan, a current senior majoring in Computer Science, is currently interning remotely for Amazon this summer as a Software Developmental Engineer. His work mainly revolves around designing and implementing a web service that will be utilized by various internal teams.

Ryan Distell, a junior majoring in PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics), is currently interning in New York as an analyst in Paradigm Opportunities to evaluate investment opportunities within the lower middle market healthcare space.

Ryan Grover, a freshman majoring in Math of Finance is working as an analyst intern in Windy Bay Power located at Houston, TX. He designs financial models and conducts trade analyses.

Luke Boll, a current Junior and major in Aerospace Engineering, is interning at Sandia National Labs this summer. He works on finding models for hydrogen production using Bayesian Compressive sensing techniques, while also working on creating Python bindings for C++ code used for uncertainty quantification.

Alonzo Cortez, a current Junior majoring in Statistics, is working at HOVER Inc as a People Operations Analyst. On the job, he leverages SQL and Tableau in order to show actionable and critical people metrics, like attrition and diversity.

Nathan Feldman, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and a current senior, finds himself in Stoneridge this summer. Most of his tasks as a Mechatronics Engineering Intern revolve around designing prototypes as part of a team of engineers focused on automobiles.

Max Xie, a business major and current sophomore, is currently working in Schafer Cullen Capital Management as a research analyst.

Tim Zamarro, a current sophomore in Aerospace Engineering finds himself in Twinsburg, Ohio working for Safran. As an Aerospace Engineer intern, he engineers design reviews, supports general production, and conducts generator testing
