Michigan Ends the Day Hot at Notre Dame 7s

Michigan braved bitter cold and stiff competition at the Notre Dame 7s tournament this past weekend.

Michigan’s first side came up short against Kentucky to start the tournament, losing 26–14. They came nearer to defeating Big Ten opponent Wisconsin in their second match, but fell 22–14. From there, Michigan rattled off three straight wins against Marian’s second side (31–0), Miami-Ohio (21–19), and Illinois (21–0) to secure the Survivor Bowl trophy. Notable individual scoring performances included Nathan Feldman’s four tries and five conversions (30 points) and co-captain Braden Loughnane’s five tries (25 points).

Michigan’s second side had a rough draw, falling to Kutztown’s best seven and narrowly losing to Bowling Green’s first side before a sound defeat at the hands of Purdue. They rallied with a quality win against St. Louis’ first side, finishing 29th in the tournament. Michigan’s third side suffered defeats to the second sides of Ohio State, Bowling Green, and Kentucky, and the third side of Notre Dame in the second division.

Next weekend, Michigan will look for revenge against some Big Ten rivals in the Illinois 7s tournament this coming Saturday, the first leg of the Big Ten 7s series. Be sure to check out our Twitter for live updates!
